Born and raised in Minnesota, I grew up hiking along Lake Superior and swimming in the granite quarries of my hometown. As a teenager, I canoed extensively in the Canadian wilderness and also began translating for a medical N.G.O. in the Guatemalan highlands.

I earned bachelor’s degrees in English and dance, and minors in art and mass communication from the University of Minnesota, and then moved to Guatemala City where I taught high school literature and grammar. In 2012, I migrated to New York to complete a master’s degree in narrative journalism at New York University, where I covered the hospitality industry, immigration, and wrote about networks of undocumented immigrant women working in nightclubs in Jackson Heights, Queens. I made Brooklyn my home before returning to Minnesota amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. I travel to New York often.

At home in Minneapolis, you can find me pulling tarot cards, singing show tunes in my kitchen, cycling and shucking oysters. I kayak the city’s chain of lakes with my British lab, Rupert, and am an avid concertgoer and lover of women’s professional hockey. Outside of Minneapolis, I’m often traveling to the the state’s North Shore, Latin America or climbing high peaks in National Parks.
